TUMS don’t work and Zantac sort of does.

I am 38 weeks pregnant and just recently started experiencing heartburn. Being from India I love spicy food and am always eating it. I have never tried any drugs for heartburn, but i always eat yogurt. Yogurt is cold and thick and coats your stomach lining and your throat. I makes me feel better.
deal wif it
Rolaids worked for me, or sipping on a glass of cold milk. They say eating an apple or eating a teaspoon of mustusd works but i never tried it.
my mom used a natural remedy when pregnant with me: strawberry ice cream!
Go to the doctor and give you a prescription for something stronger than what is available over the counter.
Take some TUMS with Calcium. My DR told me to do this when I was pregnant.
i am not sure for you the only thing that works for me is tums
Rolaids worked great for me.
Tums always have worked for me.
Ice Cream..works wonders
The OBGYN told me to take Maalox because liquid antacids work better in pregnancy. It works most of the time.
Celery. Chew slowly. Works every time. Eat several small protein based meals throughout the day and evening instead of three large meals and increase raw fruit and veggies to add more enzymes to your body.
Try eating some crackers. Saltines to help absorb all the acid.
i just gave birth to my son cayden 5 weeks ago,i had the worst case of heartburn and indigestion my ob recommended prilosec otc and it was a lifesaver i think you should try it
Try eating a handful of almonds. I read about this online one night when I was having horrible heartburn/indigestion. I eat the roasted and salted ones but not the smoked ones. They really helped! Now I keep some in my car and in the house at all times. Also, I normally have problems about the time I’m getting ready to go to sleep so my Dr. has me taking one extra strength Zantac or Pepcid one hour before bed. What a relief!! I can actually go to bed and lay down right away. I don’t have to sleep propped up for hours every night anymore. I would stay away from peppermints. While they helped me (gave me some immediate relief) the peppermint oil in them does more damage in the long run. Of course, avoid greasy foods or anything too acidic like OJ. That’s all that I can think of. Good luck!
It might be that something you are eating is triggering the response. Next time it happens stop and review what you have eaten. I would try eating more basic foods such as ice cream, yogurt, milk and crackers. Stay away from tomato based foods like pizza and most Italian dishes.
My OB told me prilosec is a category C so not to use it. I know exactly how you feel. Zantac has helped me alot but I also found: Carbonation makes it much much worse so don’t drink any soda. Chocolate makes it worse. Chewing gum, especially minty gum makes it worse. Try to eat small portions several times a day. Try not to bend over at the waist, it really makes it bad. Try to avoid laying down. Sleep propped up with pillows as much as you can. I am waiting for this stage to pass, and hope it does soon. I am about a week behind you. Good Luck. Call your Dr if unbearable. They told me they could prescribe something safe to take that is stronger than zantac if needed.
During my first and second pregnancy I had BAD heartburn, I would eat tums like candy. It was nutz! I would have to wake up in the middle of the night and take the tums, but they didn’t really last long. Let’s just face it they didn’t work! I was actually getting scared of taking so many. But during the end of my second pregnancy I started paying really close attention to what I was eating and how I felt afterward. I noticed after eating a doughnut (oh yum!) that it made my heartburn really bad. And then afterward realized that it was greasy foods that were a trigger to my heartburn. Now during my third pregnancy I am staying away from all greasy foods, and I have no heartburn, none! So I say, just pay really close attention to what you feel like after you eat, and then eliminate those foods that make you feel heartburn. Good luck!
With my first pregnancy I didn’t have heartburn until the third trimester – my doctor put me on Prilosec – - but this time I started having heartburn in the second trimester… and I just went to Wal-mart and got the store brand of Prevacid…. and it worked – but you need to check with your doctor before you do anything!
i bet your baby will have a full head of hair. even though its an old wives tale, i know many many many people who it was true for. =) Tums worked ok for me, but maybe you could ask your dr…or try some blander things. unless everything gives you heartburn…im betting on a full. head of hair =) good luck.
Ask your Doc for a prescription for Prevacid, it works and won’t hurt to take while your pregnant ..
