14 weeks and suffering from miserable heartburn/acid reflux?
I’ve never had this problem in my life and I am absolutely miserable!! It doesnt matter what I eat, or even if I eat…it’s always there! I have stayed away from fatty or acidy foods and caffeine, I can only eat small meals if I can eat at all due to the nausea (made much worse by the reflux). I have been taking Pepcid, which doesnt help a whole lot. For the past couple days I have taken Zantac. The nurse said that I have to take that for about a week before I notice it working:( I can’t be this miserable and uncomfortable for a whole week!! What can I do? I have been chewing on tums in between Zantac doses, which is helping a little. Any advice on what else I can do would really be appreciated!! Thanks!

Wow! I really wish I could help! I’m 27 weeks and I cant sleep at night. Im gonna have to ask my doc about that zantac at my next appt. Good luck!
u need something stronger , you need to get what is called a PPI a proton pump inhibitor. You must go to your doctor to get it prescribed. Things like prevacid, omeprazole, nexium, ask him for one of those. they will help you out. in the meantime, eat apples, drink apple juice, that helps. and when you sleep put a wedge under the head of your bed so you are sleeping on an angle.
I have horrible GURD, and it is so bad during pregnancy. I am currently 38 weeks, so I know what you are going through. I started taking Prilosec, since I cannot take my Nexium during preg. My doc said it was perfectly fine. It took about 3 days to work, and I have to admit, I poped a few antacid pills during that time to help. Just take one Prilosec each morning before you eat or drink anything, and it helps A LOT!
Tums didnt work for me, LOTS of water/ice will kill the burn I found, sit up, Pepto Bismol helped most f the time for me as well. Try Rolaids as well, again tums didnt work for me but Rolaids did.
It is pretty miserable but you’re pregnant, its not fun I’ll be honest, Brace urself be strong and Good Luck!
Try a big glass of Ice cold milk, it did wonders for me and I had horrid heartburn too.
TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR HE MAY PRESCRIBE SOMETHING STRONG AND GOOD FOR YOU AND YOUR BABY.. I HAVE HAD AND CONTINUE TO FROM TIME TO TIME BAD HEARTBURN I LOVE THE SMOOTHIES TUMS BUT YOU SAID YOU’VE TAKEN THEM AND DOESNT SEEM TO WORK. THATS WHAT WORKS WELL .. GREAT WITH ME. AND THEY TASTE GOOD
You have that at 14 weeks!! i feel sorry for you, i didnt get it until the end of my pregnancy and i was miserable too. The idea about keeping yourself elevated while sleeping is a BIG help. Its the only way I got any sleep at the end of my pregnancy.
Good luck and hope te zantac starts working soon.
I have heard pineapple or the juice of a raw potato work well. Milk helped me, but didn’t do much at the end of the pregnancy.. I have found that the liquid mylanta works better than chewable types. Toast and milk may help. I know how you feel, I had horrible heartburn with my first to the point drinking water would burn like battery acid and I would wake up choking on stomach acid in the middle of the night if I didn’t sleep sitting up. –that also helps, if you can elevate the head of the bed or prop yourself up with pillows. I wish you the best of luck, I know its miserable!!
