I’ve read a lot about Heartburn and GERD, but very few of the symptoms seem to match mine. This usually happens when I over eat, especially sugary foods. But it happens less than once a month, so it’s not very consistent, and so it’s difficult to determine exactly what causes it.
But in EVERY instance, this is how it happens:
I start to dream very vividly, and start to realize the pain already in my dreams. Since this always happens at night, or in the early morning, I wake up and feel discomfort in my chest. It’s always accompanied by nausea, and I always have diarrhea along with it.
I then start to get a gooey, sticky substance in my mouth. I don’t know where it comes from, but it coats the inside of my mouth and throat and is very thick. When this happens, I start producing lots of saliva, which seems to be separate from the gooey stuff, although it’s hard to tell.
Obviously, I instinctively have the strong urge to swallow, and every time I do, I get a severe pain in my chest a few seconds later, like something is squeezing my esophagus and lungs, and everything in that general area. It will last anywhere from 5 seconds to 45 seconds. It should be noted that I feel the pain ONLY after I swallow. I’ve learned that if I don’t swallow during this time, I won’t feel the pain.
This will last for about an hour, and then I’ll be fine, with only a hint of discomfort when I swallow. After about an hour, I can go back to sleep. But my mouth still keeps producing twice, or three times the normal saliva, for up to 5 hours after the incident.
I don’t think this is anything harmful, since I’ve had it for as long as I can remember, and it’s never bothered be more often then I’ve already stated. I always called it heartburn, but after reading up on the symptoms, I don’t think they are the same. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!
