To let you know alittle more about what Ive been experiencing… In august of this year I went to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack! They did a ECG and said my heart looked good. No abnormalities. They gave me some white stuff to drink, which numbed my esophagus and took some of the pain away. The ER dr gave me 20mg pills of the prescription generic prilosec, called Omeprazole, which Ive been taking since, and still am today. It helped alittle. but not enough to take the pain all away. I had a follow up appointment with my primary care dr, and he gave me 40mg tablets of the Omeprazole. I took those for almost two months, and the pain got better. Even went away for alittle bit. Thinking maybe it was gone and I didnt need the pills, I quit them and had two good days of no pain. Then on the third day, the pain came back like it did the day I went to the ER. I thought I was dying. I then came down with acute bronchitis. That was around october 24th. I was given medication for that. Even some hydroco liquid medication to help with the pain. Now, Im experiencing center chest pain, where the stomach and esophagus would be, and it goes over to my left side, under my breast and on the top of my breast area, to my collar bone and shoulder area. Not a stabbing pain, but just a pain in my chest. I cant lay down straight, I need to be sitting up at night to sleep. Last night I got hardly any sleep at all due to the amount of pain. Im in the same pain. Its not bad during the day, but gets worse in the evening and into the night time.
Any ideas on how to treat this? I just dont want to waiste more money going into the ER to be told the same thing again. I have a appointment with a GI specialist, but not til 12-15-11, they said that was the earlier they could see me. I did call my primary care dr today, to leave a message about possibly getting referred to a specialist there? To see if they can get me in anytime sooner. Ive had my gallbladder removed in May 2006. Its mostly the pain in my left side of my chest that Im concerned about.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Ive been taking the medication since October 24th, and the pain is still here. It hasnt got any better after getting back on the medications, when I had quit it for the couple of days. Im wondering if the medication will even work!

I found a few links online that says chlorinated or bottled water causes Gastric Reflux (GERD)..

If this is true how do u take out the chlorine in the water ? Any special filters that can filter all chlorine in water ??

So like right in the middle of my chest it is hurting and burning so bad that I’m almost crying. But then it goes away then comes back. I used to be a heavy pop drinker up to 6-7 a day but then I lowered it to 1-2 and the pain stopped but recently I’ve been drinking 2-4 a day and it seems like the pain is comin back. Is this most likely heartburn? And do energy drinks cause heartburn also? Or is this something else serious. No other side effects.

I think I had food poisoning last night, but I’m all okay now. Only thing is now I have really bad heartburn with no medicine or anything for it.
I’ve tried the natural remedy of bicarb soda (or baking soda or whatever you call it) with water, and it helped for a little bit, but the heartburn is still there and I keep burping etc
Help!? What can I do!? It kills!

The last few nights he has gotten heartburn starting during eating his meal. He has not had a change of diet or any other changes in lifestyle. It gets so bad he can’t even finish his plate, does anyone have any thoughts on what could be the cause of this?

I had an upper endonoscopy and I was diagnosed with GERD but my only real symptom is abdominal fullness/bloating feeling and pain. Can GERD cause left sided pain sometimes through the ribs and a full bloated feeling. I thought it was only reflux?

Can GERD/acid reflux stop you from getting in the marines? I never really get heart burn. Maby about once a month from big, greasy meals. Is that a DQ?
Is the military aloud to give you medicine?

I’m 23, and not one to really get heartburn or acid reflux very much. I’ve maybe had it a few times in my life, and I don’t eat spicy foods (don’t like them). I got sick 2 days ago (nausea and vomiting) but the vomiting only lasted that one day and it burned like hell the first time I had thrown up that day and I constantly had the hiccups. It’s been a couple of days and the nausea has gone away, so I had some (non-spicy!) chinese food today around 1pm, took a nap around 3:30pm and woke up about 6pm with heartburn and it’s lasted ever since and it’s been almost 4 hours! I’ve even taken pepto bismol and the most it’s done is lighten the pain, not make it go away completely. Is this normal?? I feel like it’s lasting a really long time. I just ate some rice and now I’m regretting that because I want to go to bed soon and I feel like laying down may just make it worse. Lately I’ve been having autoimmune disorder type of symptoms (lupus, specifically) but my blood work is coming up normal. My carbon dioxide and BUN were low, and I’ve been having some lower abdominal and back pain lately so I’m worried about my kidneys although my doctors say I’m fine. I did have an MRI done a while back on my head and spine (checking for MS) and it came out normal, all they saw was some minor arthritis on the right side of my neck so I don’t know if that’s what’s causing the pain or what, but I’m just hoping this heartburn isn’t related! I don’t have any other problems with swallowing or anything. I’m worried about GERD and getting cancer. Ever since I’ve had these weird symptoms pop up over the last month I’ve been a paranoid, stressed wreck. And this heartburn coming on out of nowhere is freaking out me.
*I’ve also had some chest pains lately, but I am a hypochondriac and do suffer from stress and anxiety since my doctors haven’t been able to tell me what’s wrong so It’s become difficult for me to determine what’s really an issue and what’s just from my anxiety. Symptoms come and go weekly. Since it doesn’t feel like it’s getting any better yet I just want to make sure this heartburn thing isn’t just another symptom and is completely separate!
