Heartburn itself…no, I don’t believe so. But what can happen is that the acid reflux feels so bad that the person hyperventilates. That could cause fainting.
Hyperventilation results in an over amount of CO2 in the brain. That makes the brain send a signal..I need oxygen. Since the person is too busy hyperventilating, the brain then says "Okay, so then if you won’t do it yourself, I will make you do it. Now lie down stupid and slow your breathing down."
The person faints and the subconscious takes over returning breathing levels to normal.
If the pain is unbearable and the brain needs the space to deal with problem brain will shutdown those parts that is not needed on dealing with the problem.
