GERD-Heartburn help.?

In a couple of days I’m getting an a Barium Swallow test but this heartburn/GERD or what ever it is no fun and i’ve been like this for over a month.(and my doctors appointment one week after this test) I really need to know what i have and what i can do to feel better. Any suggestions or comments i will read. Thank you in advance.

HEre are my symtoms:

1. i can feel fine all day but then i get a dry cough that will not go away (this is mostly at night, never mornings and most of the times when im in bed)
2. I dont feel a burning sensation, just a discomfort (really annoying) and slight pain in the esophagus and in opening of the stomach. (maybe thats heartburn idk)
3. Feel like there is something stuck in my throat (not all the time, just when i feel sick or need to cough)
4. I’m constantly burping. Sometimes the burp brings up a clear phlegm (that i have to spit out ) and sometimes i just feel like burping but it wont come out. (this has only happend 2 – 3 times)
5. my chest muscles sometimes get a burning sensation too, so do my abdominals.
6. today my face turn red and i was burning a little.
7. overall when i get these symptoms i just feel really sick, sometimes a little dizzy or light headed nothing i can’t handle, my muscle ache, and i just feel sick overall…

Additional Info"

I had a stress test done three weeks ago with my cardiologist and my heart is really healthy, so no heart problems that i can relate this to.

On my father’s side of the family my grandfathers and my dad suffer from heartburn daily. I dont know if their heartburn is this intense.

I’m taking one prilosec every morning for 30 days (by doctor) but i’m also taking zantac when i still feel my GERD symptoms. If its GERD i have….

I welcome any help i can get.. im really scared that this could be something worst that GERD or heartburn. I’ve been having a healthy diet, no spicy food, tomatoes, heavy foods.. etc. and im still getting these symptoms.
Nope. Dont smoke and i drink maybe one or two times a month (one or two drinks that day).

GERD? Head & Neck Cancer? Please Help!?

Sorry if this seems lengthy but I need some feedback! 4 weeks ago, I was fine and in good health. I make it a point to visit my doctor regularly b/c I do suffer from OCD, anxiety, and I can be a bit of a hyperchondriac.

My problems all started 3 weeks ago when I ate some spicy food. I had burning in my chest and throat. I was told it was probably acid reflux and was given Prilosec. All of the symptoms went away on day 2 of taking Prilosec and I was OK until day 4. By then, I had this tightness feeling around my neck and my jaw hurt. I went to an E.N.T. and he said I had a TMJ problem and prescribed 40mg of prednisone for 3 days.

Well, on day 2, the tightness went away, jaw pain went away but I started having serious pains from the back of my neck to my back where the spine is. I felt as if something was broken. On day 3, the pain was awful so I decided not to take the last of the prednisone.

Fast forward to 2 days later and that problem went away BUT I started having a muffled feeling in my ear, neck spasms, pressure in the back of my head as if I had a band around it and a dull ache in my jaw. The spasms were painful so I went back to the E.N.T. and he told me to see an oral surgeon (I do clench and grind my teeth) and prescribed me Flexeril. I also aw my GP who thought the spasms were a side effect of the prednisone.

So, I had one day last week when I felt good… no spasms, little discomfort in the ear, and no head pressure. I went to the dentist for fillings the next day and my problems all came back right after. I saw an oral surgeon last week and he said I had very mild TMJ issues… my jaw is aligned and that he thinks it’s a muscular problem.

Well, I won’t be able to see my GP until next Wednesday and I have scheduled an appt for a neurologist at the end of Dec. I am really anxious right now. I’m 30 yrs old and as I type this here are my problems:

1. discomfort from behind my left ear to my neck. It’s not painful but I feel as though the muscle is tight. When I put my head up that feeling goes away. When I’m looking straight or down, I can feel it and I get that muffled feeling as though something is in the middle of my ear radiating down to the left side of my jaw.

2. I can turn my head from side to side without pain but I feel a bit of stiffness in the back of my neck.

3. Some discomfort on and off under my chin where the muscle is. The right side of my jaw feels a bit tender to the touch.

4. A slight popping/squeaky type of feeling in my right nostril when I drink something. My throat does NOThurt when I swallow.

5. Some pressure in my eye that makes the lids feel a bit sleepy/heavy. My vision is not blurred but it kind of feels like I have to wipe my eye. Also, I did wake up today with some clear discharge in my eye and had a quick sharp pain in that eye once in the last 24 hrs but nothing since.

6. On and off vibrating feeling in my chest. It’s a weird "motor" feeling in my chest which may be anxiety-related, don’t know.

7. My shoulder blades ache.

8. I keep getting an on and off dull ache in my chest on the left side and on/off raw/sore feeling in throat that comes and goes and feels sensitive to air.

9. On and off dull pain in head near my temple. I don’t have anymore spasms in my neck so the pressure/tension headache I was having has subsided.

9. Throughout the day, I feel the need to belch before I swallow.

That’s pretty much it. I do work on my computer and spend 8 hours or so sitting here. I have bad posture and have been under a lot of stress this past month and my anxiety has increased ever since having these problems.

In the past 3 weeks I’ve had 2 EKG’s that came back normal. I had a simple blood test done that came back normal. All doctors said they didn’t feel any swollen lymph nodes in my neck. The E.N.T. did not do a scope of my throat but he said he doesn’t think there is anything major going on with me. My GP felt the same but it’s been 3 weeks now and I’m still going through all of the above.

I’m super scared that I may have Head & Neck cancer, esophageal cancer, throat cancer, MS, or rheumatoid arthritis. When I asked the E.N.T and GP about this they both shrugged it off and told me "no" you do not have that but haven’t done any x-rays or tests to rule them out.

Has anyone experienced these symptoms or have any feedback you can offer?

PS. I did have a chest x-ray one year ago and all was normal along with a heart x-ray that came back normal. Also, I don’t drink or smoke.
Well, I went to see a different GP yesterday who did a thorough physical that took almost 2 hours. GP concluded that all is "normal" despite my pain. No swollen lymph nodes or anything. Blood work is normal. He thinks it’s all anxiety related (no surprise there) and he even had a second doctor check me out to confirm.

He prescribed Zoloft and has me starting with a slow dose and gradually building up. I was crying the whole time during the appt. I kept thinking "they think I’m a head case" and even though they told me I don’t have signs of MS, head & neck cancer, etc, I’m still not convinced. I guess I won’t be until I have x-rays, MRI, ct scan showing that I’m fine.

Also, an online diagnostic test suggested I may have Fibromyalgia. When the nurse asked me what’s wrong today and I told her, first thing she said was "sounds like Fibromyalgia." The GP doesn’t seem 100% convinced that it is but said IF it is Fibro, this is the same path he would go down with regard to me taking zoloft.

2 Years of Digestive Symptoms, Help !!?

I have had digestive symptoms for 2 years now. They have been getting worse. I have spent soooo….. many hours trying to find out what it is. I am male in late teens. My symptoms are:

Upset stomach
Fatty Diarrhea
Gas (Bloating, + Other)(This is the worst symptom)!!
Stomach Pain (Mostly at Belly Button, due to gas)
Dehydration

Other possible syptoms:
Burning need to urinate
Itchy outbreaks (Amazingly painful)
Joint pains
Unhealthy; skin…
Eye problems

These symptoms have caused me to fail my year at school. I am going on a school trip very soon, and hope i can prevent it beforehand. These symptoms seem to be like 20 or more possible diseases and such. I have been going to a doctor, who took some blood tests, and i believe it was concluded its not lactose and gluten intolerance. Syptoms get worse under stress and positioning.
I tried some raw garlic to kill Gardiasis, and a little baking soda to stop GERD (acid), but it got worse.

This may be much, but thanks, any help would be great. In over a month i begin with a specialist.

I have been sick for a long time now (about 4 years now) I had lost weight and have been having really bad tummy aches and constatnt nausea. And when I lay down at night I would get "wet belches". I would burp and taste vomit in my mouth but I never actually would vomit. I would also get diarreah sometimes. But my symptoms (nausea tummy aches) would sometimes increase during my period. My doctor finally diagonsed me with GERD after asking me a few questions. I had been tested for ALOT of crazy things in the past but all came out negative. So I was so relieve to hear a diagnoses. But the doctor told me to take Zantac but it made my tummy hurt 10x`s worse so I stoped taking it after 2 days. So now she switched me to Prilosect OTC. Now I am so scared of taking medications. I never self medicate for anything. Not even a common cold. And my first medication was for a UTI and the antibiotics made me feel really sick and so did the Zantac. So my medication history was not a good one because it always made me sicker. Thats why I have not started taking the new medication yet. So my question is, how bad are the sideffects of Prilosec OTC? Since im using it to treat my GERD symptoms instead of heartburn would it still make me nauseated? Thats my main concern now. Im almost always nauseated and having tummy aches so I really dont want to take anything that would contribute to that. I just want it to stop once and for all. I just want to feel healthy and normal again. I really dont want the pills to make it worse. If you have GERD and take Prilosect OTC please tell me how it worked for you and what I should expect for me. Also if there are any other GERD medications out there with little to no side effects that you know of and or have taken please do educate me on them. I know most meds will have side effects but I just want to know what I may be in for. Thanks for the answers in advance. Also why do you think my period makes the nausea and tummy aches worse?

My dd has gerd (acid reflux)?

Her Dr thinks she has acid reflux. She has all the symptoms. We have tried Zantac (didn’t help), Prilosec (helped slightly), and now Prevacid. Wednesday it will be a week since she started the Prevacid and the first 2 days she was drinking 5 oz at a time which is much more than she was before (2-4 oz a time) and I thought that this was it. But after the 2nd day it has slowly gone down hill. Now she takes 2 to 3 at a time and is very fussy and turning her head, stopping then trying to eat again. I am at my witts end and I don’t know what to do. Anyone else have this same problem and if so what did you do?

My baby definitely has reflux. She has all the symptoms. She is on the most sensitive formula. She only fusses when she eats. Not after.

My daughter is lactose intolerant so we can not use the formulas for acid reflux since they have lactose.
It is short for darling daughter. ds is darling son.

GERD! please help?

Hello.
My thirteen yearold daughter has had health problems all her life. It took untill she was 3 years old for doctors to figure out that only half of her spincter had grown ( sphincter is what connects stomach to esophogus). Because of this she had severe acid reflux. When she was 4 she had a fundoplication. That operation worked like a miracle. She finally started to eat and began to thrive.

Last year she had ongoing intestinal problems, and then finally being diagnosed with viral disease which later caused appendicitis. She is all better now thankfully.

About 4 months ago she had a checkup endoscopy with her surgeon and he said that her esophogus was inflamed, covered with mucus and was very scarred. She has been on omeoprole ever since. The only problem is that the omeoprol isnt helping. Everytime she eats something acidy ( salsa for example) she is doubled up with severe nausea. She shakes uncontrolablly and looks so sick. She tells me that when she wakes up in the morning her chest really hurts to breath. And whenever she eats she can feel food getting stuck in her esophogus. She honestly goes through about 8 glasses of water every dinner. She has a white tongue. After dinner she always feels presure in her upper abdomen and bloating. She has recently told me that she often gets pain in her upper right abdomen after eating sometimes.

I’ve booked her into her gstroenterologist but it is such a long wait as he is in alaska at the moment. Does anyone know what could be causing her symptoms? Her doctor has said it is possible she will need another fundoplication. Im really worried. Could this be more then reflux. Please give me some ideas!
Im sorry this was so long, but I just thought I should give the whole story and symptoms.

GERD/Acid Reflux problems…?

I have had severe symptoms with acid reflux. At times I wake up with a fluid coming out my nose and sometimes I wake up with the sensation of drowining and then I’m in the bathroom trying to cough the burning sensation out of my throat.

I am on nexium 40mg daily. I take it at 3pm and eat my last meal at 4:30pm. The thing is that I go to bed around 10pm and still wake up with these symptoms that really hurt and interrupt my sleep. There are times I am chewing tums, eating a few crackers, drinking pepto or even downstairs drinking straight out the milk jug just to get some relieve and nothing helps. I stay away from spicy foods/carbonated bevereages and like I said I eat my last meal at 4:30, sometimes 5 but go to bed 5–6 hours later and still have this problem.

I have taken many prescribed meds, and the little purple pill (nexium) doesnt even help anymore. Do you think that surgery for this might be my only option? If so, what are the pros/cons to it.

Thanks, and sorry this was so long. I just cant take it anymore.
BTW….. I am 37 years old

I noticed a few questions on here about reflux today and it seems like an unusual amount of people are responding and saying their babies have reflux or GERD. Do doctors just hand out those diagnosis every time a baby spits up more than a couple times a day?

My little guy has been on zantac for GERD since he was 3 weeks old, but he really did have it bad. He would just scream and scream while arching his back because he was in pain, and was projectile spitting up everything he ate. The zantac helped, but he still spits up obviously since it doesn’t treat that symptom.

I’m not trying to say other people’s children don’t have reflux by any means, just wondering if you guys think that many babies really have the condition, or is it just something that is getting over diagnosed these days?
I agree about the medication hannah. I took my son in one morning when he was about 2 1/2 weeks old to see a nurse practitioner because of his reflux symptoms and she immediately just wanted to call in zantac without doing any testing. I opted to wait and have the pediatrician make sure before I put him on daily medicine, but it concerned me that the nurse practitioner was so quick to just say it’s reflux, give this medicine!
Mallory’s mom-I hope you find out what’s going on with her so good luck! Just in case your last pedi didn’t tell you though, no medicine can stop the spitting up, it just takes away the discomfort associated with it.

I have been experiencing problems with my stomach for years (5 years), most can be described by upset stomach and abdominal pain soon everytime i eat, three months ago i would have extreme sinus pain not in the skin but more like the bone kinda feeling or nerves in the sinus, along with that my right eye would get very irritated and gets red with the sinus pain episodes. but recently another symptoms is added, i could deal wiith lot but the recent symptom interfere with my work and my mood, i would have extremely sore throat, a feeling in my uvula, like a ring pressing pain to the point it gives me headaches, sometimes it is so sharp it feels like hair stuck inside my brain, right in the middle.
the interesting thing is thee symptoms starts if sit for long time somewhere (siting like at work ).
i went to the Gastro, he prescribed Nexium after doing an EGD (nothing in there), blood test reveal nothing except low HDL. CT on the abdomen scan shows no abnormalities.
i have lost 30 lbs in 3 months…my doctos was concerned, that s when he ordered a CT.
the wieght lost could be attributed to the lack of food intake because of the misery after i eat, so i found myself eating less and less.

I dont what to make of it, tired of going to doctors…and all this money and no relief.
could it be some virus.
yes, i have done H,pylori came out negative, even done as biopsy in the EGD procedure.
