Ok, here is the situation. What you have is obviously bacteria. It cant be passed on but the tendency can be. If you have an active ulcer then yes, take the meds. But let me fore warn you that now that you have tested positive for it, you will forever test positive for it. The reason I know this is because I have tested positive for it 3 times now and have only had an active ulcer once.

Youre not contagious if thats what you are worried about. But do talk to your doctor. He will put you on either a 3 or 4 med combo that have some nasty side effects but they do help heal an ulcer. The worst side effect if youre not allergic to any of the meds is that you get the worst after taste in your mouth. It tastes like you are chewing on a rusty tin can for a week and you are constantly spitting out your saliva. But thats really the worst of it. But hey, if it heals the ulcer then its worth a week of a nasty taste vs having surgery to fix a hole in your stomach right?

Good luck.

Yes, it is important to treat these bacteria with antibiotics .....usually a tri-pack which contains two antibiotics and an antacid is required for couple of weeks.
This is necessary to prevent from occurrence of gastric/esophageal cancers in the future.

Ref...practicing MD myself!

I had duodenal ulcers off and on for 40 years. The usual treatment was antacids, bland diet, and later acid blocker medications. Then my doctor told me about recent discoveries connecting h. pylori to ulcers. He prescribed a treatment of antibiotics and bismuth (Pepito bismol). I haven't had any recurrence of the ulcers since. My current doctor told me that they don't even use bismuth any more, just the antibiotics.

I just wish they had discovered this treatment earlier.
