If understand right the muscle is weak, opening when it should not (mine is at night, or any time I fall asleep). With that in mind I do not want to inhibit stomach acid as the meds. Doctors describe do…this would cause even more problems it would seem….I want to know if there is a way to strenghthen involuntary muscles. thanks Kathy

i dont think it is the muscles that cause you to have gerd. it is the high output of acid. the thing to do, is to cut out the products that are causing the exess acid, such as coffee , tea, cokes, tomatoes, citrus fruit, etc, anything acidic.,stay away from.
& try to make yourself more alkaline. An alkaline body wont put out too much acid. the "green foods”, apple cider vinegara, Kyto frm Swanson.com, anything tht will promote stabilty in the tummy.
also, stress is a factor. the body, holds stress & can manifst itself in the intestines, as told by David in the Bible, "my bowels did yearn for my son’ meanning, his emotions,
true, your stress & emotions influencesit. Walking will help release stress. I also take slippery elm bark & ginger.
I do hope this helps, i also sufffer frm gerd, & am trying very hard to eat right *(not eating greasy foods too) & i got a tape form swanson that tests your alkaline level, & am try ing to keep up w/it. i was very bad when i 1st got it, but i’m gettin better.
good luck
It isn’t the actual esophagus that is weak…it is the sphincter that opens to the stomach that is weak…an No..there isn’t any way to strengthen it. Some things can help…the meds the Dr. prscribes work really well and don’t really cause any other issues. The constant acid up your esophagus however WILL cause other worse things like esophageal ulcers…these are REAL BAD!
Natural things you can do are: don’t eat after 6pm (or 4 hours before you go to bed), sleep with your upper body elevated so that gravity will pull the acid juices downward, stay away from caffeine, acidic juices and spices for dinner. And NEVER over eat.
But, you really should try the meds. Even if it is just for a little while until you get it under control. They can truly save your life.
change your diet that will help
no more sodas, caffiene or fried foods…. eat healthy, and you’ll turn that all around, see your dr as well
