Have you considered a hiatus hernia? This is caused when your stomach pushes through a small defect in your diaphragm. The end result is that the muscular sphincter which keeps your stomach contents in place becomes ineffective, allowing gastric acid to leak into your oesophagus causing heartburn, especially when you lie flat. Your symptoms also fit with this disorder. Heartburn in hiatus hernia occurs after lying down and nausea is also common. Hiatus hernia can be helped by having smaller meals more often, not having a big meal before bedtime and raising the head of your bed. Unfortunately gaviscon will not help very much as you really need medication to reduce your stomach acid. Go and see your doctor again. I hope you get relief soon.
Someone told me yesterday to have a glass of milk before bed, it helped them.
Get of the gaviscon and drink some Soda Water. Its more natural . Look at what you are eating High sugerie foods or what . Eat more fruit and Vegetables
Hi, Prop yourself up with 3 or 4 pillows, this should help a lot.
Firstly as a fellow suffering I can empathise with you , however, your doctor should have been prescribing you a prescription drug such as Nexium which will help control the acid reflux though it can never be cured.
Self help tips:
Raise the head of your bed 1" by putting books under the legs. This will prevent the acid from coming back into your gullet;
Eat a bland diet and cut out the wines and spirits;
Lose weight as this does help;
Never wear anything tight around the waist and try not to bend over too much;
If the sickness becomes a real problem mention this to your GP as he can give you something to combat this;
With these preventative measures you may find that you can control your reflux. If the condition persistly gets worse go back to GP as it could be that you have an a Hiatus Hernia ( a small opening in the stomach ) which may need painless investigation.
Though my suggestions have helped me cope with my hiatus hernia there are times when the bloating and the tightness in my chest and stomach can at times become unbearable. It could be that somebody can give you more comprehensive advice to help you cope.
All the best and cut down on the gaviscon and get to the doctor.
It sounds like you may be eating too late on a night time.
in the morning do you sick up a kinda froth?
I suffered with your symptoms but also the frothing…after months of tests and doctors appointments it was decided that I had an H Pylori..its really called a heliocabacter pylori..i think thats right, its a germ in my digestive system. Lifestyle is the problem, I dont exercise much, i eat quite late at night, usually spicyish food, I run around all day at 150 miles per hour and dont know how to relax easily…..Sound familiar ? I get bad heartburn / reflux by eating other things…onion, cucumber, pastry. Milk is an immediate thing that you can usually lay your hands on, it cools the lining of the stomach..i find a piece of dry bread helps also as it soaks up the acid…but they are only temporary messures, you need to go to the doctor and get a diagnosis…Gaviscon may help but again, its not a solution.
If you’re getting acid refluz, it’s most likely because you are taking something with too much calcium in it. Calcium stimulates gastrin and gastrin promotes acid reflux. Try an all natural product like Gingera Antacid. It contains ginger and is fda recognied. You can easily find it by searching for Gingera Antacid.
Good luck to you!
My mum had this for years and years before something was done about it. Eventually she got the camera test done which showed that in fact they caught it just in time as the acid had caused damage to her oesauphaugus. She had been taking rennies for years but apparently this was the wrong thing to do. She now has to take a medication called losac mups every day. Her problem was simply an over production of acid by the stomach.
She now has to be careful in what she eats, no hot or spicy foods, no white bread as its harder to digest, no citrus foods. She drinks green teas and peppermint teas and always has to have something to eat before going to bed.
Co insidently my aunt recently had a similar problem, she experienced the heartburn for a considerable time then started vomitting blood, turned out to be an ulcer.
Might be an idea to ask for more tests or a second opinion, see a GI Doc if you can get a referral.
