If you are wanting an answer that does not include medication, it would consist of a change in diet , staying away from foods that are spicy or fatty. If I were you I would do some Internet research on acid reflux and heartburn. Acid reflux can cause damage to your esophagus over time resulting in serious medical problems. If the problem persists, you need to see your MD.
THere are prescription meds that help and some non prescription. They make wedge cushions to go in your bed for you to sleep on so your head and chest are at a down angle. They are sold at places like Linens and Things and they are about $20. or you can put bricks under the head board posts so that will keep you at an angle. Stop eating for a couple of hours at least before you go to bed. Hope that helps
I have that problem. Never eat til your really full, and eat more small meals rather than fewer larger meals. Spicy foods trigger acid too. Take an acid reducer like Pepcid, and stay away from antacids like Tums. Don’t eat after dinner, or just before going to bed. That’s the worst.
My husband has acid reflux and he found out that he does not create enough acid to break down the food. So he eats a dill pickle spear almost ever day. Also, Cider vinegar will work if you do not create enough acid.
If you take Betaine Hydrochloride [found at any healthfood store, or try Puritan's Pride website - they are always having sales], 3 of them, when you eat meals, that will help. Also you can try mixing 2T of apple cider vinegar in a little water with a packet of sweetener and drinking that. The pickle cure will help, too.
What my mom [who knows everything] says is that the problem is not producing enough acid to digest the food. The medication drs prescribe REDUCES acid; it helps you feel better but does not solve the problem. The betaine hydrochloride is stomach acid and will help the food digest better.
Zantac was the cure for me 200mg two days per day thirth minutes before eating, and about three "Galvisgon" (sp) after eating. Do not lie down after eating. I almost slept standing up for years. I had blocks under my headboard where the acid would not get in the esophagus. My hiatis hernia at the end of my esophagus is the size of a donut. I do not have the value that stops acid from backing up into the throat.
Heartburn and Acid Reflux are the same thing. The drug companies realized that people wouldn’t spend lots of money for a prescription drug to treat heartburn so they invented the disease called Acid Reflux. Take Chamomile with every meal and in a week or 2 it will subside.
stay away from OTC and prescription drugs. They do not cure acid reflux, only cover up the symptoms. The FDA also released the newest dangers from taking Nexium and similar drugs.
There is no magic remedy. It’s a lifestyle of eating less, losing weight, sleep with the head of the bed raised, drinking more water, figuring out the trigger foods to eliminate, etc. etc.
I found eating a small piece of an organic orange peel gives instant relief. Chew it until it is mushy and then swallow.
Try raw, organic apple cider vinegar (Bragg brand is great). Mix a couple tbsp. in a cup of warm water before meals (unless you can stand it straight). People often reach for antacids when they have indigestion when, in fact, in most cases what is needed is *more* acid (as in the form of apple cider vinegar), not less.
Feel better…
