Does anyone know what causes severe infant anemia?

My 6 wk old baby had severe anemia , low hemoglobin and required a blood transfusion. I was never told by the doctors what caused it. She has GERD..could that be a factor?
She was delievered by CSECTION @ 36 wks.

Was she born prematurely? My son required a blood transfusion and had GERD. Both were related to his prematurity (but the GERD did not cause the anemia.)
