Doxepin is an antidepressant with H2 antagonist properties. Does it have GI effects?

H2 antagonism reduces gastric acid secretion. Zantac, Tagamet, and a couple others are used to treat heartburn.
Does doxepin’s H2 antagonism reduce gastric acid secretion in a similar way? Would it make for an effective heartburn medication?

Yes, it could be used to treat ulcers, but it isn’t good for GERD because of its anticholinergic properties, so it may make heartburn worse instead of better. There’s little reason to use it for that purpose at any rate, simply because of the better alternatives you listed.
