Has anyone experienced heartburn as a side effect to Lexapro?

My doctor prescribed me Lexapro for depression and I took my first dose today (just 5 mg). Now, it’s been 12 hours since I took it and I have bad heartburn and I feel nausea when I try to eat anything.

Nausea is a common reaction to beginning almost any medication. I have taken Lexapro and I felt a bit sick to my stomach the first couple of days. You can take pepcid or prilosec for the heartburn and that may help the nausea as well, but do not take it at the same time you take the Lexapro as if effects how your stomach processes the medications (or any medication). It should stop within a few days, but if it does not, let your doctor know.
Well I take Lexapro but they also have had me on Nexium for a few years now.. maybe ask the doctor that gave you it to you and see what they say? Good Luck!
I’ve been taking Lexapro for a year and a half, and I’ve not had any nausea from it (and I also take 5mg). It does take several weeks for your system to become acclimated to the Lexapro, it may be because of that.
Are you taking the Lexapro in the evening?? I take mine shortly before bedtime, it helps alleviate any drowsiness with it.
Try sticking with it for another day or so and see if the heartburn and nausea goes away – and then if it’s still there you might contact your doctor.
Something else you might do is take it after your evening dinner – so your stomach isn’t empty. That may help, too…
Best of Luck to you!!
Paul.
The first time I took it, I had bad nausea. Mine only lasted for a day though. I recently increased to 20 mg and have experienced minor nausea. Mine seems to be only when I start it or up my dose.
