Heartburn that never seems to go?
Hi, for the past 4 days I have been getting very bad heartburn which comes and goes despite medical treatment (prescribed and over the counter medicine.) I went to have an ECG scan today and told my heart rate and pulse are faster than the average heart and I have to go back next week and talk to my doctor about why my heart rate is faster etc…anyone heard of anything like this? Does it sound serious? The heartburn is driving me mad and interrupting my sleep and work x
Well I try to eat healthy meals like salads, roasts and stir frys a lot but also a few naughty things like crisps. My diet hasn’t really changed recently and I did used to drink alcohol but hardly any at all now so I’m confused. First time I have ever suffered persistent heartburn! x

The only way to find out if your diet is causing it is to change to a light bland diet for a few days (say chicken and rice, poached eggs, poached or grilled white fish but no sauces or ketchup on any of these, no alcohol and no drinks with caffeine in). If after the third day there has been an improvement then you know its your diet that has caused it. You then need to continue this diet keeping a diary of how you feel. Slowly re-introducing other foods and drinks and if you have a reaction isolate what food it is that triggered off the heart burn and avoid it.
With me its any spicy foods, black pepper, alcohol and coffee that sets mine off. Good luck
Now tell us what you are eating as well……..
Stress could cause it – and that can cause the fast heart rate as well
Are you stressed? Stress can cause acid indigestion and reflux which would also tie in with elevated heart rate.
Take your meds but also try to fit in some relaxation or a massage.
Heartburn is caused by acid reflux and can be brought on by stress or a poor diet. It’s a bit of a vicious circle sometimes – you can’t sleep because of the heartburn so you get tired and stressed and that makes the heartburn worse. The increased heart rate could simply be down to stress. Try not to worry too much as you will only make the symptoms worse.
I have suffered from heartburn all my life and had different tablets, the best one I take for the past 3 years is "Lansoprazole 15 mg" I take one a day and I don’t get heartburn anymore, ask your GP about it,and jamand is right, stress can bring on a faster heart rate.
Can be a sign of severe heart condition. Often people with heart conditions feel symptoms of heart burn that wont go away in addition or individually of symptoms such as numbness or chest pain. Keep your appointment and take it easy until then. If you feel shortness of breath, other classic symptoms, or the heart burn gets worse get to the emergency room.
hi.could it be anything to do with dairy products?,i love milk, but too much of it hits my heart.perhaps fizzy drinks?.i’m sure when you see your doctor they will be able to work out whats causing it.feel better soon.
