I weigh 176 am 5′5, have GERD, & am on medicine for underactive thyroid. I need a healthy diet & exercise program that can help me lose 50lbs. I cant bend over alot because of my GERD & need a regimen that allows me to burn calories safely. I also wanna tone my body while I lose the weight.

Well you already know what types of things trigger your GERD and being that you’re on medicine for an underactive thyroid that should help. I have a thyroid condition that can’t be medicated so consider yourself lucky in that respect. You can still eat healthy foods like fruits and veggies(just avoid the ones that’ll cause your GERD to flare up) and eat whole grains and lean meats. drink lots of water too. As for burning calories safely, just walk. Walk for 30-45 mins a day or more if you can, for 4-5 days a week and you’ll see great results. Don’t walk at a leisurely pace though, you want to really get your heart rate up and burn the calories. I know it might be hard to believe that walking will do that much but my health professor has a friend that did exactly what I told you and she lost 17lbs in 6 weeks. For toning I suggest you add some form of weight training routine as well. You can go to http://www.freetrainers.com/ and set up a free account and they’ll walk you through the steps to set up a routine for you. I’ve used it and started noticing lean muscle after about 2 weeks. Its hard but really worth it. You can also avoid the exercises that have you bending over, or you can try to find modified versions that won’t require as much repetitive bending.
