I am 36 weeks pregnant and I keep getting heartburn at night really bad. So bad that I throw up in my sleep. Last night I did it and I inhaled some of it in my sleep. It was so horrible. I have started sleeping sitting up. I can’t stand this it is so scary. I woke up choking. Has this happened to anyone?

Talk to your doctor about it. I know Tums and Zantac are safe but it is best to ask the doctor. Your reflux is extreme and you do not want to aspirate it. Keep crackers near you at all times, stay hydrated, don’t let youself get too hungry, and give yourself about 2 hours between food and sleep. You might also want to keep track of the foods that bother you.
Funny, I suffer from reflux but oddly enough it eased up during pregnancy and came back after.
YES, eat a small bowl of white rice before bed, it will get better
Talk to your dr. about what OTC medicine you could safely take during pregnancy. Your heartburn is extreme.
Oh no! I had it a little bit at about 26-28 wks but I am not looking forward to it being that bad….I am 30 now….Congrats on the baby! You can eat as many Tums as you want to!
i did really bad in my 3rd pregnancey but i had twins drinking milk works really well
My wife had really bad heartburn but not like you described.
I used to get acid reflux. That was horrible. Heartburn was rare for me.
Yes it has!! It drove me crazy!! You don’t have that long to go!! Have you tryed Tums?
i have had it happen but i noticed when i stoped drinking regular soda it didn’t come any more try drinking some water before you go to bed that helps a bit to
I had it so bad I could not get to sleep at night. you can get stuff from your doc that you can take when pregnant. good luck
i’m sorry…that must have been horrible and kind of scary. i guess i was lucky, i never had heartburn
omg my heartburn is horrible too my friends say it means the baby will have alot of hair…i say it’s annoying !!!!! i wake up choking & i burp all day warm heavy burps my poor co workers just ignore it now- I have a docs appt fri i was going to ask for some prevacid or something tums just takes too long
I had really bad heartburn when I was pregnant, I took TUMS every night before bed and that seemed to help. I have never thrown up in my sleep though, so I guess it’s not as bad as what you’re having.
I never actually threw up while still sleeping (light sleeper!) but in my first pregnancy I would get up to throw up regularly because of heartburn. I definitely feel for you – it is awful. My doc told me to avoid spicy foods, chocolate, blah blah….but when I told her that even WATER gave me heartburn, she was very sympathetic! Tums are safe to take, and give you extra calcium too….they don’t work wonders, but they provide a little immediate relief. Thankfully, you are close to the end…right after my son was born, my heartburn disappeared (only to return again during this pregnancy!!)
I’m 29 weeks pregnant and I started having heartburns around 16 weeks. I know it hurts and its pretty annoying. I keep tums by my bed and before I go to sleep I drink warm milk this seems to help with it also. Try eating a lof of Papaya thats good for heartburn as well and don’t eat before going to bed that can really upset ur stomach.
hey! i feel your pain..same exact thing happens to me.. and ONLY at night when im about to go to sleep too..it doesnt matter what i eat..im up at night..cz it comes back up in my throat while im sleeping and im choking trying to sleep..the thing that helps me..is i take 2 extra strength tums..if that doesnt help me when sometimes it doesnt..i LOVE drinking a cold glass of chocolate milk.. yummm lol..it feels sooo good going down..and my stomach settles down a lil. ask your doctor what he/she can perscribe..recently i was perscribed zantac..it should be safe if your towards the end of your pregnancy. good luck!
YES I HAD THE SAME THING! I was told by my doctor to try ZANTAC and omg what a lifesaver!! for the rest of my pregnancy it was gone! i mean completly! i was sooo thankful! ask your doctor about it and see if he cares if you can take it. But i didnt take ANY medicine my whole pregnancy not even tylenol i was so scared for some reason.. but finally at 38 wks i gave in and tried this and SOO glad i did! Good luck! Your almost done
I thought mine was bad until I read your question. Continue sleeping sitting up and definitely contact your doctor. There are otc and prescription things that you can take that won’t hurt the baby.
Mine is just as bad as yours! OMG it’s horrible, especially woken up during the night from throwing up in your mouth, gross huh? It sucks. Everythign I would eat would give me heartburn, even fruit! I have lived off of tums for awhile now. It gets A LOT better once the baby dropped. It doesnt go away completely when the baby drops, but it does get better. I no longer have such severe heartburn since he’s dropped, only a little but its still there. Its okay you’re almost there!
I lived off a huge pack of rennie tablets a day, I felt awful with it!! And like you mine was so so so so bad at night and i too threw up quite a bit I hated it and I slept propped up with a load of pillows as it helped also like you I feared I would choke. And also with me when i was 37 weeks pregnant I developed a really bad chest infection, so with that and the heartburn my poor hubby had to sleep on the sofa the rest of my pregnacy as the chest infection lasted until i was 39 weeks gone so did the heartburn and I was SO uncomfortable I could not sleep at all he is also a big man and offered to sleep on sofa so i was more comfy and get the rest i needed, But boy was I pleased when I went into labour at 39+5 weeks!!
I am only 12 weeks and I have never experienced heartburn in my life. I did hear it was most common in late pregnancy and that most women do get it if they haven’t had it before and that it gets worse for the women who already had it pre-pregnancy. I’m keeping my fingers crossed though, I have enough aches and annoyances already!
