Symptoms of Acid Reflux:
Chest pain – part of the heartburn sensation
Dental erosion
Dysphagia – difficulty swallowing
Heartburn – a burning feeling rising from the stomach or lower chest towards the neck
Hoarseness
Regurgitation – bringing food back up into the mouth
Causes of Acid Reflux:
The vast majority of people with acid reflux will get better if they make some changes to their diet. Some foods are safe for heartburn sufferers, while others are major triggers of it.
It would be easy to say that there is a reflux diet. Unfortunately, we all react differently to different foods.
Below is a list of foods/drinks that commonly cause irritation and/or heartburn:
Alcohol
Black pepper
Chili and chili powder
Citrus fruit, pineapple
Coffee
Garlic
Spicy food
Tea
Tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato juice, ketchup
Vinegar
So, in all stay away from a majority of the foods on this list, or just portion them…
I’ve been dealing with acid reflux (otherwise known as GERD) for a l-o-n-g time.
I’ve tried lots of reflux meds and I can’t say I recommend most of them. Lots of side effects. They’re really just not good for you. Full of chemicals. You’re only supposed to use them for brief periods of time, too. Whenever I’d stop taking them, all my symptoms came right back. I decided to try natural remedies and they worked a lot better than I thought they would.

Eat smaller meals, reduce the amount of fat in your diet, don’t eat just before going to bed, and start keeping a food diary to track which foods and drinks trigger your heartburn. Alcohol, citrus, spicy foods, dairy, chocolate, tea and coffee are common triggers. You might want to see if some of those foods and drinks are triggers for you as well.
