How can I get rid of my acid reflux/bad heartburn in the middle of the nigth so I can sleep?
I have tried Zantac, and Extra strength Tums, neither seem to work and at 2 or 3 am, I am up with bad heartburn. This has happened 2-3 times in the last month, twice with me getting up to sleep sitting up in the living room. I cannot go to the clinic until Dec 1st, as I just married a military member and the coverage does not start til then (however, an ER visit is covered). I can’t deal with this pain that long. Should I go to the ER?

one when you start to feel it put another pillow under your head this will give you some relief now look are your drinking coffee or what are you eating before bedtime think about that
now during the day go buy bakeing soda apple cider vineger and surgar total cost maybe 5 bucks last you a month
now be fore you go to bed fill a glass with water ad the bakeing soda o the water add the sugar last ad the vineager stir it it will fuzz drink it down while its fuzzing do this before you go to bed
now its all natural and has help folks for about 100 years
what it will do is calm the acid in your stomach and maybe even solve part of the problem
look you could have problems you dont know about find a free clinic and go tell them its nightly
Im guessing if you do what i say water sugar baking soda than a teaspoon of vineger stir drink quickly and tada a good nites rest
bye
my brother had reflux bad. he tried all the meds – then he discovered that aloe-vera juice was the only thing that worked for him.
There are several things you can do. I suffered from the same thing. Stop eating fatty foods, tomatoes, spicy foods, tomato based sauces. go back to basics and listen to your body. slowly introduce these things back into your diet, one by one and if you wake up in the night don’t eat the same thing again. Zantac didn’t work for me either.
Try Pepcid AC or Prilosec… Those 2 otc meds helped me… When you go to the doc, ask him about Protonix… I had acid reflux really bad, I took it for 2 weeks and I felt sooo much better!!!. If the acid reflux is really bad, you do realize that you have to take the medicine regularly for at least 2 weeks before you start to feel a lot better. It has to actually heal the acid burns on your esophagus!!! Also try sleeping at an angle and not eating anything, especially larger meals 3-4 hours before bedtime. If you do drink anything close to bedtime, drink milk.
I never tried Zantac, but my mom did and she said it didn’t work for her after a while, like she became immune to it. I have tried Tums and Rolaids… they did absolutely nothing for me, it’s like taking chalky tasting candy.
I hope I helped!!!
The best thing to do is to be on a medication you take once or twice a day, every day. Pepcid ac 20 mg is an over the counter med. But if I wake up during the night I chow down some tums. It helps in the short term.
People with reflux should have the head of the bed elevated 6 inches, eat mild foods and personally, I sleep kind of half sitting up with lots of pillows. It’s super comfy and the reflux doesn’t get bad then.
Oh, and don’t eat for about 3-4 hours before bed.
Hope you feel better soon!
Be carefull of what you eat during the evening. Things such as dairy, acid foods or starchy food can trigger this. Especially at night. Eat you larger meals in the morning and your lighter meals in the evening. Try not to eat at least 5 hours before bed time.
Usually doctors will tell you the same thing or fill you full of pills.
Try this and see if it helps.
I’d say go..
If it hurts you bad enough don’t wait around…
it could be serious if nothing has helped….
You could have an ulcer…
or something really serious like
gastroesophageal reflux disease
It’s your call, but don’t wait…over time your acidic contents could damage your lining of your esophagus and then you will really hurt..
Hope you feel better soon.
Well darling. My mom and myself both delt with the exact same problem. When Zantac isnt enough you know uv really got a problem. Have you cut down on eating spicy foods? Or foods with alot of acid in them? If youve tried that and it hasnt worked, your doctor may try to put you on prescription medicine such as Nexium or Prilosec. These drugs help to fix your acid problem, and not just cover it up in the way Zantac and tums do. Since you cant visit your primary physician I would def visit the ER one night when your symptoms are bad. My mom had heartburn so bad that all she could eat was bland creamed potatoes and peas with no salt for months. She took Nexium at it cured her just like that! Its a miracle drug. Seek help immediatly. Good luck.
Try "Arm and Hammer". Look on the outside of the box for details on how to take for heartburn. (but this is only a quick fix!!)
If you can’t deal with that pain, I would go. Severe gastritis is very painful. I went to ER for it once, gave me IV medication to calm it down and a prescription for meds till I got to the DR. I ended up having an ulcer. Some of the OTC meds are not presscription strength and some take awhile to get into your system. GOOD LUCK I feel your pain.
Dissolve one rounded teaspoon of Baking Soda in a glass of lukewarm tap water.
Now, you have to want relief because this tastes like sh*t. Chug the solution and wait for the biggest burp of your life.
Feels better, doesnt it?
Goodnight
Bet ya’ my bottom dollar, you have an ulcer!
As soon as you start the 12 day treatment, you’ll be relieved.
If you are taking any anti-inflammatory tablets for your back, just take panadol or ask your pharmacist for something similar, as anti-inflamatries only increase the ulcer and it’s pain.
I had a "food as medicine" class last year and my professor had a master’s degree in nutrition. She said that medications which turn off your stomach acid pumps are not healthy. The heartburn is a symptom of something but overactive acid secretion is rarely it. Forcing the pumps to stop makes the system that causes them to work upset. It keeps sending stronger and stronger signals to the pumps. When you finally quit taking the medicine, there’s a flood of acid. And then you really DO have the heartburn problem, only the medicine was the cause. Also, you need that stomach acid to properly digest food/absorb nutrients. The deprivation of nutrients is extremely harmful. Usually it happens so gradually that people don’t attribute it to the meds. She also said that many people who think they have too much acid actually have too LITTLE. You can test to see like this: take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar when you have heartburn. if it goes away, you have too little stomach acid.
