I had reflux throughout both my pregnancies. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much back then…..about 7 years ago, that I was aware of besides antacids. Some of the things that I did were:
1. not lay down flat
2. stay away from acidic foods like tomatoes, etc.
I would ask your doctor. Maybe there is a different medication that you can take. Good luck.
ium 33wks and get h/b alot and i was drinling milk and that done the job and my partner told me to drink coke and that works also x
I think drinking lots of soda or milk helps (it’s true). I think it’s milk b/w. Try it.
Milk, Honestly Milk!
Drink plenty of milk and try stay clear of spicy/acidic foods. I think keeping a pack of polo mints near by helps too.
i take tums w/ calcium, they help me sooo much, are 100% safe, and have calcium so taking 3 a day gives you the full daily supply of calcium you need
Drinking milk used to help the heartburn I had in pregnancy. It didn’t completely get rid of the pain, just eased it a bit.
Snack when you feel heartburn, try to sleep on an incline at night, avoid greasy and fried foods, drink ginger ale or tea or milk.
Try not to eat or drink anything before bed, try to pinpoint the foods that are triggering it and stay away from them. When you feel it coming on prop yourself up with pillows try not to lay flat. When I was pregnant, I also got reflux with the heartburn and water was a big culprit. If I drank to much it would just come right up. Yuck! I know you don’t want to hear about anti-acid tabs, but Tums do work well and are safe and contain calcium.
hello heather! i know how horrible heartburn can be, so painful!! anyway, if you are having symptoms right now, you can simply get a little bit of baking soda, a quarter teaspoon would be enough, add that to a half cup of lukewarm water. stir the baking soda in the water, then chug it down! drink it, then after about 10 15 minutes the heartburn should dissipate!!! good luck!
I have the same problem. Here’s what the doctor told me: don’t eat or drink 3 hours before bedtime, during dinner stay away from high fat and spicy food, take pepcid AC right before bedtime. Also try to sleep with your head elevated.
Take my word for it on this one, you don’t need any pills. The quickest and best cure I’ve found is sipping a little bit (like a single shots worth lol) or Peppermint Cordial.
It works a treat and is basically what is in those tablets anyway only without all the nasty chemicals.
It’s been a complete godsend for me!
Drink fresh milk, gaviscon is really good(don’t know how you spell it!)
You can also get heartburn tablets which are handy to have at work and when your out.
Good luck, its awful isn’t it
Milk is the best to stop heartburn besides antacid tabs. The old wivestale is true it means your baby is going to have a lot of hair. I had so much heartburn and my daughter came out with a head full of black curly hair. Good luck!
1 teaspoon of vinagar yes sounds gross but it does work
I had the same problem, i am currently 32 weeks. Buy regular Strength TUMS and you should be alll set
also eat fewer portions of food.. But the TUM are a hit
Milk is the only thing that ever worked for me. A little warmed milk at night is a yummy way to settle down too!
Give birth to your baby?
LOL, no I know what you mean. When my heartburn got bad I chugged milk because Tums weren’t doing it for me. It won’t make the heartburn go again, but it helped it not be so terrible for me.
Get some ‘crystallized ginger’ … you should be able to find it in the ‘bulk foods’ section, or in the ‘natural snack section’ of most stores, but you also may need to ask where they have it, or if they have it. I’m way past getting pregnant (5+ years past menopause) but I have horrible heartburn, and the ‘antacids’ (even prescriptions) don’t always work and aren’t always as quick at I (and you) need. Crystallized ginger is basically the the ginger root boiled in a thick syrup so it’s covered with sugar crystals. Ginger has been used in Asia since before the bith of Christ to ’settle the stomach.’ This works for nausea, vomiting, and heartburn. I keep my bag of ginger near where I eat, and simply enjoy 3-5 pieces approximately 10-40 minutes after a meal. My stomach settles down and I am much more able to pass gas (either end, and you must not try to ’stifle’ this need, because that also contributes largely to your discomfort and pain). You may also need to take some ‘real’ medication, but talk to your doctor about what is the best antacid for you … so take notice of the foods you are taking in before you get an attack of heartburn so the doctor can figure out the best antacid you can take due to your pregnancy. Ginger, even crystallized is hot, and some people think it’s way too ’spicy’ and would cause heartburn, but I’ve used it since I was young enough to be pregnant and it does work, reliably, and if you eat it before you feel an attack coming on you won’t get the truly bad attacks of heartburn that come with any and every pregnancy.
well from my own ex, milk works only for alittle while. if you really want it to disappear(and you dont have high blood pressure) try a 1/2 spoon of baking soda and a small glass of water. sip it fast…it will neturalize the acids in your tummy. milk and acid is like oil and water…they will never really canel each other out….
I use Tums, they are safe in pregnancy because they’re made out of calcium carbonate. If you eat 3, that’s you had your RDA of calcium.
I drink a cold glass of milk too, and stay away from fat, acidy foots.
water and or tums
