Calcium is an alkali which cancels acid,the same as caustic soda neutralises acids.acids and alkali’s are opposits.And its the acid from your stomach that causes heartburn.
It’s not really the calcium. The calcium (or aluminum) comes attached to two hydroxide (oxygen hydrogen) molecules. Once in the stomach they separate (disassociate). The OH- (base) combine with the H+ (acid) to form water molecules.
