Infant GERD?…Looking for encouragement…?
My son is four months old and has had horrible reflux problems since he was a month old. We have seen two different doctors and a GI specialist. He is currently on Zantac and Reglan. Even with medication, he vomits forcefully after most feedings. He is slowly but steadily gaining weight. I know that symptoms associated with GERD usually subside before the baby is one year old, but, I was wondering; for those of you who have had experience with infant GERD, when did your baby start to have less problems?
I have tried different formulas, feeding in an up right position, thickening formula, keeping him elevated (especially after eating), and giving small frequent feedings. Nothing seems to help him
He frequently refuses feedings and cries when he tries to eat. I just worry about him sometimes…

When my daughter was 10 days old she was diagnosed with GERD. By 4 months the zantac stopped working completely. We switched her to privacid solu tabs around 5months and she was fine after that. Before hand she would throw up non stop even with medicine. She was 6 pounds at birth, and not gaining weight very quickly. At her 6 month checkup she was doing great. We also started her on solid foods at 4 months which really helps to keep the drinks down. Talk to your ped first before doing that however, as most recommend waiting until 6 months. Ask your dr. about prevacid, it worked wonders for us. My daughter is now almost 9 months old, 18 pounds and a very healthy, active, vomit free little girl
no experience with it but i would question your doctor about the meds because there is a lawsuit regarding the 1
right after was started on zantac [which he is still on] and after we found the right formula. my son had it so bad he couldn’t eat because after taking a sip from the bottle his eyes would boldge out and he’d start crying. but since he has been on zantac/his formula nutramigen things have been so much better…no more throwing up/pain….my son is 6 months..hes been on zantac since 1 month…have you tried a different formula?
my son takes .11 now…but at 4 months he was taking .8
My daughters acid reflux got better around the time she started solids.
Are you giving him smaller feedings more frequently? That help my daughter a lot!
Also try keeping him upright about 30min after each feeding, elevating mattress that he sleeps on.
I also gave my daughter "Mylanta." But, talk to your pedi before giving it to your son to get the correct amount.
Sometimes GERD is caused by a food allergy. If he is on cow milk based formula, soy may help and vice versa. If you are nursing him, you might want to keep track of what you eat and try eliminating some things, one by one and see if it helps. Milk is often the culprit.
My daughter started feeling better when I stopped drinking milk and eating milk-containing foods.
mine had it bad, but i don’t know about that bad….as she started solids it got a little better and by maybe 7/8 mos had quit almost entirely, so hang in there, it does get better; she’s a yr now and *never* really spits up anything, thankfully!
