There are several different reflux medicines that the baby’s pediatrician can prescribe. Babies respond differently, so she might need to try several. As you said, OTC meds aren’t designed for newborns.
In addition to meds, your sister should try to keep the baby upright for several minutes after feeding — don’t feed then put her right down on her back. If you need to put her down, you can rest her on her stomach and keep an eye on her (b/c of SIDS), then roll her onto her back before you leave her alone. You can also put her to sleep in her car seat to prop her upright.
Good luck! It’s better for everyone to treat it soon than to wait it out.
What in the world is gerd?
