Please answer if you have GERD and have had pain and gas too. I have to take Tylenol along with what the?

doctor prescribed for me.Is it normal to be put on a 4th GERD medication because the others stopped working?

I have acute and chronic GERD and for the past 2 years have been treated with both Pariet (20mg) and Ranitidine (300mg) per day. Prior to that I was on other medications to treat GERD, but they would stop working and so far the Pariet has worked the longest. In the past month or so my condition has become more acute and the week before I saw my Doctor the pain had become intolerable (and yes I have gas too). My Doctor put me on another, additional medication, Nexium (40mg) which I have been taking for the last week because it appears that the Pariet is no longer working. Nexium, is the best one that I have tried. I still have a week left of the Nexium before I see my Doctor again. This medication has worked so well, and it has been a long time since I have felt this good, that I definitely want to stay on the Nexium. I don’t know about you, but it is at night that I have the worst of my attacks – as a result, I don’t get a whole lot of sleep at night.
I’ve been taking the Nexium about an hour before bedtime and for the first time in a long time, my stomach pains are not preventing me from sleeping, or waking me up when I finally do fall asleep. Especially the last 2 nights, I had a great sleep. And what a difference that makes, I almost feel like my old self.
So, I know what you’re going through and I literally feel your pain – but to answer your question, in my case at least, it is normal for my Doctor to prescribe a new medication when the old medication stops working.
