I havent had kids for 12yrs. But what I used to do is mix a spoonfull of bakingsoda with an 8oz glass of water and drink it very slowly. I dont recomend doing to to often but it does work.

oh dear, i had the same problem late in my pregnancy, i would be up at night with heartburn, if everything else isn't working try sleeping somewhat upright at night, don't eat before bed, and since you're lactose intolerant, drink water.

1] eat half size meals - six times a day, instead of three.
2] try fruits juice or nectars [ not citrus ] such as peach, pear, mango, etc.
3] eat very bland veggies, friut, bread; and enough meat/poultry/fish to stay healthy
4] avoid stuff you KNOW doesn't 'sit' well - spicy, greasy, or anything with sauce, pepper, caffiene, carbonated drinks, chocolate, peppermint and spearmint.
5] space out drinks so you have 2 to 4 ounces every hour, instead of a lot at once.
6] try lying on right or left side, or prop up pillows - first left to right; second top to bottom; third left to right to make a good back support.
7] wear very loose clothing - especially around waist. Steal your husbands' sweats/pants/shorts if you have to - or just wear a gown, or go naked!
8] take vitamins with meals, so they digest better.
9] natural remedies that are safe:
bites of banana
1 or 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar
honey
PS: I feel for you - had moderate heartburn with one pregnancy [ breech ] and HORRIBLE heartburn on chemo.

Well I too had very bad heartburn when I was pregnant. Tums didn't help for me either and I was on bed rest as well. Although I must say that I took a lot of tums and never became constipated. Anyways I had so many tums to the point where when I would take one I would throw up...not to mention they were not helping at all. What I started to do was sleep with two pillows in an upright sort of position. To be honest nothing I took helped me except Zantec. I found that when they say to eat small meals throughout the day it didn't help and I ate very healthy throughout my pregnancy. What I find did help was taking a zantec before bed and not eating at least 2-3 hours before I went to sleep. It was really hard for me to find something that would help with my heartburn...but these things worked for me.
