Question about Social Security Disability…..Bi-Polar ?
In 2005, I applied for social security disability. I was fighting an overwhelming battle with depression, asthma, Gerd, and a couple other things. Now, when I went to see social security disability doctors, the medical doctor was concerned and said I need to seek further treatment. The psychologist said I was fighting depression. I was still turned down.
Now, I recently seen that psychologist ( the social security psychologist on my own dollar ) He diagnosed me with BiPolar Disorder AND PTSD. I’m considering applying for disability once again because I have worsened over the years. I talked to a social security disability attorney, and he said the conditions weren’t what you say, overwhelming, convincing evidence. Does my body have to literally shut down in order to recieve benefits ? I’ve seen SEVERAL people on here say they were approved for Bipolar alone. Can you give me detailed information about Bipolar and how severe the case has to be in order to receive benefits. What do you think of the same psychologist from social security seeing me as a patient and making that diagnosis, but yet I was still denied in 2005 ?

Basically to be allowed for mental impairments, you need to have a long history of mental health treatment. How many times have you had an inpatient hospitalization for your problems? You need to be unable to function on a level where you are reliably able to care for yourself or perform a simple job. If you are able to relate and communicate with others, make it to work on time on a fairly consistent basis and are able to perform a simple task (think of packing parts in a box) then you are not disabled.
Have you considered looking for work?
Its all part of the game. denying people social security. The beneficiaries of the game are the psychologists, attorneys, civil servants. etc
The conditions have to be debilitating which usually means being medicated full time, they have to affect your daily life, such as not being able to hold a job, having problems coping with daily life, not socializing, etc.
These things are tended by a psychiatrist, difference being a psychiatrist can perscribe medications and a psychologist can’t, therefor serious problems are dealt with by a psychiatrist.
And to be in a bad way, you would have to be on meds, have mental issue’s which you do, but not bad enough if your not on medication.
If things are becoming worse, see a psychiatrist and get a diagnosis. It is a psychiatrists diagnosis you need, although they won’t tell you that.
I guarantee you’ll end up on meds, if not several. These guys diagnose total stranger in less than an hour, nor will they hospitalize you unless it’s "NOV", then they crowd the psych wards to spend every cent left of their budget or they won’t get as much $$ next yr.
