Questions about Acid Reflux/GERD?
I was wondering if there are any foods or drinks that can help my GERD? I’ve had it for a few years, was on meds for it (Nexium and then Prilosec) but went off because I could no longer afford them. The problem did seem to get better because both purlpe pills helped heal my stomach over time from being on them. Lately it’s been getting worse, I’m popping 1-2 Zantac 75 every single day and they only help for an hour. So until I go back on Prilosec…Are there any foods or drinks to help? I’ve tried changing my diet, but that doesn’t work, neither does eating a piece of bread with a little water or plain crackers. I’ve also heard about drinking a little apple cidar vinegar, but I don’t know if I’d like the taste.
(I have been diagnosed with it so I know it’s nothing else, I have seen specialists for it as well. I’m just waiting to have a little more cash to be able to afford a prescription or Prilosec OTC.)
It is not H. Pylori, it’s not from abusing drugs (wtf??!) and I don’t need a colon cleansing, GERD is genetic retard… and Tums and anything else that’s coated or turns into a powder actually gives me more acid. The first time I went to the doctor’s for this he gave me a 2 week supply of Tagamet and I got heartburn from it so I had to switch to another one, it didn’t work. So far the only ones that have worked were Prilosec (rx and OTC) and Nexium…because they are PPI’s (proton pump inhibitors) and they help heal over time. WHAT ABOUT FOOD? I’ve changed my diet to an extent that I could and even eating foods that won’t cause heartburn…I still get it! So something that actually works would be appreciated…

Now, I’m an MD trained in am American school, so I’m biased (not a big fan of juice-cleansing). What I recommend to my patients is to avoid large meals. Avoid fatty foods or spicy foods. Take zantac twice a day, and tums as needed (though no more than 4-6 daily). Don’t eat after 7:30 or so, as the reflux will get worse if you lie down after eating. Avoid alcohol, as that makes it worse, too. I wouldn’t drink vinegar, as it’s acidic, and should make the symptoms worse. As for h. pylori, the prev. poster is right, h. pylori often is the cause of peptic ulcer disease, but treating h. pylori (done with antibiotics) without anti-ulcer therapy doesn’t work too well.
I have acid reflux also….. it sucks! I use TUMS, and that helps me.
Good luck.
Have you been tested for helicobacter pylori?
That could be your problem
I read recently that h. pylori can be cured by eating lots of broccoli for a couple weeks. This sounds ridiculous, but I read it in a magazine at my doctor’s office.
I have h. pylori, but it is asymptomatic, and I hate broccoli anyway.
Hi Nymph
To help ease the symptoms and start the healing process a colon cleanse is needed (also a liver cleanse). You must remove the toxins out of the body including all the drugs your doing. The blood is toxic and you need to learn about juice fasting and using herbs to clean your system. I cannot stress that enough. Please educate yourself on cleansing.
Best of health to you
Cheers
Food combining! Do a search on it, study it, try it.
Many cases of ‘acid reflux’ are caused by combinations of food that should not be eaten together.
There is some useful advice here.
