I’ve had it for several years. Symptoms vary with the individual. Mine mimicked those of a heart attack at first. Chest pain, pain in right arm, sudden, profuse sweating, light-headedness. I drove myself to the hospital, was kept overnight for observation, passed a stress test with no problems, nothing else was found. That’s when acid reflux was diagnosed. Sometimes it’s mere heartburn, but there are times, especially in the morning, when I suddenly feel lousy, tightness in my chest, I begin to sweat, but I don’t panic anymore because I know that in a few minutes, I’ll burp a couple of times and get rid of the gas that causes the symptoms, and then I feel just fine.
Zantac works pretty well but I take it only when I get the symptoms in the evening, before bed.
