ginger is a natural remedy…you can eat food with real ginger in it, like ginger chicken (yum!) or get the pills at a health food store (read the label to ensure it contains only ginger)…
you can also put one teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of 8 oz of water and stir until the baking soda is dissolved (very important)…it doesn’t taste very good, but it works super fast–you’ll be burping in no time
I have also eaten something high in protein so the acid has something to work on, like a 1/4 cup of walnuts—get your omega 3s and unsaturated fat along with acid relief
milk doesn’t work for me–it seems to create acid instead of reducing it…
Maalox regular. My OBGYN said he recommends that over Tums because TUMS doesn’t work and you end up popping it like candy so he says to get the Maalox and that usually works better.
i get heart burn if i dont eat so eating helps me
my doctor suggested prilosec. one pill a day
You can try drinking milk or eating apples or potatoes. Those are about the only things that worked for me besides Tums……
Don’t eat salty, spicy, sour, etc kind of foods. That just makes it worse. So does anything citrus. Trust me – I have had severe heartburn since I was in high school – way before I had kids.
Have you tried just drinking plain milk? The thought kind of makes me cringe cause I haven’t liked milk and tums have helped me but it’s worth a shot.
if not maybe check with your doc and see if there is anything else you can take that is safe.
good luck- heartburn sucks I know!
I take Zantac or Pepcid AC bc TUMS are useless. I take one before a meal or at least 2 to 3 times a day. I also eat smaller meals and more often. Usually five times a day. I avoid things like caffiene, carbonated drinks, and spicy food.
MILK… it coats the acid and sometimes helps ease the heartburn. also eat much smaller meals and stay upright after meals. I’m 22 weeks and this has worked for me.
I drink 1 glass of Milk
I, just like others, also suggest milk.
My doctor told me I could take Pepcid AC when I was pregnant with my daughter. I had heartburn so bad in the beginning that my throat swelled up. It works pretty well. Make sure you ask your doctor before you take anything! Good luck!
I have a friend that is an older lady, and she uses vinegar when she has heartburn. Just like a tablespoon or so does the trick if you can keep it down. Good luck
Hi
I tried this and experienced great success with my wife when she was pregnant with our first.
Ginger Tea
Since its introduction into western society, many heartburn sufferers swear by the fact that drinking just one cup of ginger tea will give them immediate relief from their heartburn.
Again, ginger tea is very simple to make yourself. Just put 1 1/4 to 2 teaspoons of freshly shredded ginger in a cup and add boiling water. Let the ginger steep for around 10 minutes. Next, strain the mixture to remove the ginger and then drink when at the right temperature for you.
Hope this helps!
