What does aspiration from GERD feel like?
Once I woke up in the middle of the night because of an intense pain in my chest. I couldn’t get the pain to stop. I couldn’t catch my breath. It wasn’t a burning sensation so much as extreme pain when breathing. I think now that I aspirated in my sleep which would have been caused by my presumed GERD. I went to the ER and later saw two doctors following the episode and no one could tell me what had even happened, but they refered to it as heart burn, and I said "No, this was no heartburn."
Has anyone else experienced aspiration?
I was taking nexium but have since lost my health coverage. Without healthcare insurance it is no longer and option.

Sometimes with severe GERD, you can have bile rise up in your throat, which can cause you to aspirate. I’ve had bile so badly that I was unable to lie down without choking on it. Are you on medicine for the GERD right now? You may need to switch medications. Hope you’re feeling better soon!
I have severe GERD and you can have episodes in the night where the bile rises quickly causing your mouth to water uncontrollably which causes you to wake up choking. Usually no amount of swallowing will help with the amount of saliva that is produced. These episodes usually end in a bout of uncontrollable vomiting due to the rise of bile and production of saliva.
