What is the best fix for heartburn during pregnancy?
I am now 7 weeks pregnant with my third and have NEVER experienced heartburn this severe. I don’t see my OB until Thursday and I’ve been living with this unbearable pain for about 2 weeks now. It’s a constant burning and NOTHING makes it better. I just tried Mylanta this morning and it’s really not even taking the edge off. Please help! I’m practically bed-ridden because I’m a miserable mess. Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!

i found that drinking milk helps me a lot….if not then try taking tums.
I drank milk and chewed tums..but honestly nothing really took it completely away…just lessened it a bit. I found no matter what I ate I got heartburn anyway.
Best of luck and I hope you feel better soon.
Zantac or Pepcid…both safe and pregnancy friendly! and a life saver!
I don’t know how effective it is but try some mints.
I took rennies when I was pregnant. They help with heartburn and indegestion.
I had this too. Mylanta, in addition to being yucky, didn’t seem to help. Rennies are good but you can’t get them in the US – I’ve looked — believe me! So I tried an Apple Cider vinegar recipe (all-natural; you’ll find them online) but they didn’t really help although I’ve heard good things from other people. But the winner was a ginger infusion which I also found online. Right now I’ve not made any for a few days, so not only does it make you feel better, but it seems to have stopped it. It’s simple and you can make a day’s supply fresh each morning:
Thinly slice 2oz of peeled fresh ginger. Put it into 2 cups of water on the stove, add the juice of half a lemon (or lime) and 5 cloves (if you like that flavour) boil it and then simmer for about 5 minutes. Strain the drink out and add sugar, honey or maple syrup to taste. Good for morning sickness too and keeps well in the fridge. Cosy warm or add ice.
Baking Soda and water.
I have 4 kids and am preg with #5 and I have ritualistically carried Tums with me for every one of them. If you chew 2 at the onset of heartburn things should be allright immediately. If your heartburn is very bad and it is causing you to be sick or making it hard to sleep, then talk to your OB/Gyn about maybe something stronger. I was on Protonix with my fourth and that was a life saver if I remembered to take it every day.
This might help….. a little bit a baking soda in a cup of warm water, It instanly stops the acid build up. It’s different sometimes a bit more baking soda or room temperature water. Variety… hope it helps.
The two best things I think they’ve ever invented for heartburn: chewable Gaviscon tablets, and Ranitidine (Zantac 150).
I had heartburn so bad with my last 2 that it used to make me feel like I was going to be sick (and occasionally did). As soon as I started using those 2 things, I was okay. Zantac is good for prevention or for longer-lasting relief, while the Gaviscon works quickly. It seems stronger than Mylanta or Tums, and it worked much better for me. I took 3 tablets with a small glass of water, and that did the trick.
My doctor said it was fine to use both at once, since they’re two different types of medication. If you’re still not sure, check with yours first. Also, I just used the Walmart Equate brand. It worked just fine and saved a few dollars.
I hope that helps!
drink lots of water, eat smaller, blander, more frequent meals instead of 3 big meals a day. milk does help a little bit, but not for long and not so much. when you lay down stuff some pillows under you so you are not laying flat. laying at an incline also helps. you can have tums, too. it sounds like acid reflux, though and that is a bit more serious than just heartburn. at your next doctor’s appointment ask him/her about your options. my doctor put me on nexium and it’s a life-saver! i don’t have any heartburn at all! best of luck to you!
I am 10 weeks pregnant and have massive all-day morning sickness and heartburn. I throw up at least 4 times a day and I just feel like I breathe fire. BUT, there is HOPE! I now take ZANTAC! I am able to eat small meals several times a day AND keep them down!
) And, my heartburn is pretty much gone too. I still feel nausea during the day, but pregnancy is so much better now. I absolutely love Zantac and would recommend it to anyone. Congrats on your 3rd pregnancy!
