Sit up straight, take some deep breaths, have a drink of milk. However, if it is persistant then there may be an underlying problem which would need medication.

Try combining some of the dietary and lifestyle changes mentioned in the reference below along with a tonic of apple cider vinegar (two teaspoons in an 8 ounce glass of water) before meals as an all natural way to alleviate occasional heartburn symptoms or as a preventative practice.
Reference includes some recent testimonials by people using ACV for heartburn.
The obvious one would be a spoonful of bi-carbonate of soda in water (doesn’t taste too good, very sodium taste alot like salt actually so it tastes like salt water) but it will work to neutralize the acid, plus you can pick it up for pennies at the supermarket.
Other than that anything else which is an weak alkali, strong ones will do more harm than good of course, will act as a cure for indigestion you already have.
You don’t have much else you can do on this score without medication apart from taking preventative action, avoiding highly acidic food and/or beverages (including most soda’s and processed drinks, and alcoholic drinks generally) as these are the sorts of things which cause heartburn, also avoid eating too quickly or resuming activity right after eating without leaving your food time to settle, all of these will cause the symptoms, then your only option goes back to the first one or medication (which in fact will do exactly the same as the bi-carb but will cost you like 10x more, they are usually things like magnesium or calcium hydroxide which neutralize excess acid).
So overall I would suggest the spoonful of bicarb in water if you are looking for relief from heartburn which is already in progress.
I suffer from heartburn at least once a week and the only thing that works for me is a little Baking Soda mixed in water. It tastes gross, but it neutralizes the acid in the stomach right away. Don’t use to much Baking Soda or you might throw up!

I have read that a teaspoon of vinegar does the trick. Sounds gross, I know. But try it. It does something to balance out the acidity.
Maybe mix with sugar to help the taste.
if it is brought on by certain foods then try to avoid.
ginger and lemon tea will help with digestion.
before you look for a cure find out the cause and treat that.
drink some milk and try to get some sleep
Anything with ginger in it, ginger tea, or ginger beer are good
try drinking some milk

Drink peppermint tea, sold in many supermarkets and health food shops. I find it very pleasant to drink if it is not left to infuse for too long.
It is renowned as a treatment for the digestive system. A max of 4 cups per day is recommended. Do not use for children under 4.
