The stomach acid refluxes to the oral cavity, where normal (bacteria) flora lives. Acidic environment is where bacteria grows better. Thus your breath smells more.
Other than that, acid also injure the mucous membrane of the oral cavity, and that reduce the protection against those normal flora. Bacteria, again, grows better.
